We are looking for a Life Skills Instructor to work in our adult day program (Discovery Program). Successful candidates will have education and/or relevant experience to support adults with disabilities in their endeavors to live dignified, meaningful, and independent lives.

Description of position:
The Discovery Program is a daytime recreational program designed to provide adults with disabilities access to a wide range of recreational activities and life skills development. Operating Monday through Friday from +:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the program offers both community-based and center-based activities that enhance participants' quality of life, promote community inclusion, and encourage personal growth. Staff are responsible for delivering diverse social, life skills supports, creative expression, and recreational experiences while advocating for the empowerment and well-being of participants. The program ensures that each individual's unique needs are met, which includes providing adapted support and implementing positive behaviour strategies as required.
General Responsibilities:
Provide recreational activities and life skills support for individuals with diverse abilities, both independently and as part of a team.
Collaborate in a center-based program with a large team of professionals.
Assist with personal care needs as required (toileting and feeding).
Create and implement social and recreational opportunities for participants.
Contribute to the development and delivery of behaviour and communication strategies.
Engage in positive and meaningful support with service users.
Maintain a person-centered approach and work cohesively with the team.
Contribute to program cleanliness and upkeep.
Make sound and safe decisions.
Program-Specific Responsibilities:
Participate in all Lifeskills Center Programs as needed.
Work independently, using critical thinking and initiative.
Provide personal care support (lifting, transferring, feeding, toileting) as required.
Complete clear and concise daily documentation.
Deliver safe, dignified support to clients.
Create and deliver daily activities.
Take clients swimming, support with cooking basic recipes.
Follow client support plans as outlined.
Qualifications:
Experience working with clients with behavioral challenges, mental health issues, or dual diagnosis is an asset.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
Clear Criminal Record Check.
Minimum Class 7 Driver's license, with a Class 4 License required within one year of hire (required).
Knowledge of Community Inclusion and the goals of Community Living British Columbia.
