Summary

We are seeking an Early Childhood Teacher to join our team at the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society in Aldergrove. Aboriginal Head Start is an all-day culturally supportive group childcare environment for Indigenous children aged 2/5- 5, delivering holistic teaching that are culturally relevant to ensure a sense of belonging and well-being, respecting and honoring every child's spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and educational activities for young children.

Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes learning.

Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff to support each child's development.

Monitor and assess children's progress, providing feedback and support as needed.

Collaborate with colleagues to enhance educational programs and community events.

Support children with special needs or disabilities by adapting teaching methods accordingly.

Requirements

Early Childhood Educator Certificate with current license to practice required

Post-Basic Infant Toddler Educator and Special Needs Educator certificate is an asset

Emergency Childcare First Aid with CPR/AED level B (Infant/Child) or higher

Food Safe Certificate

Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages is an asset.

Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting

Knowledge of special education practices is preferred.

Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask effectively.

Must be well-versed in cultural sensitivity and have understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal culture, traditions, and historical issues impacting urban Indigenous families

Must successfully complete Criminal Record Review for work with children and vulnerable adults
