JOB SUMMARY

The ASSP Coordinator will improve the coordination of, and access to, Indigenous learning opportunities for Indigenous ASSP learners and is responsible for the development of curriculum that is centered in Indigenous knowledge, including outdoor land-based learning.

Duties

Develop and coordinate program activities, schedules, and resources to ensure smooth operation.
Collaborate with educators, community partners, and stakeholders to align program goals with organizational objectives.
Monitor program progress and prepare reports to evaluate effectiveness and areas for improvement.
Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers or staff involved in programs.
Facilitate workshops or educational sessions as needed, utilizing teaching skills to engage participants.
Manage registration processes and maintain accurate records of participant data.
Organize events, outreach activities, and promotional efforts to increase program visibility and participation.
REQUIREMENTS

· Possess post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, social work, child and youth work or combination of the equivalent and relevant education.

· The candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated and related work experience with children and youth.

· Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous Culture and History, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach.

· Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with child welfare agencies in Ontario.

· Strong understanding of the Education Act, Child and Family Services Act, with emphasis of impact on Indigenous students.

· Satisfactory vulnerable sector check.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provides guidance and supports for Indigenous students in the program to achieve their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

· Works as a team member with the OCDSB, and with the support of the direct supervisor, to consult, intake, review and make decisions regarding students and how to meet their curriculum needs.

· Advocates for and incorporate Indigenous culture, teachings and language into the ASSP curriculum.

· Establishes a network of Indigenous Elders and community members to regularly assist in providing Indigenous teachings and experiences for students.

· Contributes to the development of the ASSP Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in partnership with the OCDSB.

· Manages behavioural issues and provide crisis intervention supports with students as necessary.

· Provides wrap-around services and a strengths-based action plan for each student.

· Promotes awareness and ensure access to the program through a variety of outreach efforts and promotional activities.

· Refers students to appropriate services as required and to document, advocate and liaise with internal and external resources and supports.

· Establishes working relationships and partnerships with local community organizations to best meet the needs of each student.

· Represents the ASSP in the community as appropriate and be involved in community activities to further the awareness of and represent the urban Indigenous students.

· Accurately report and ensure all program objectives are being met in accordance with agreements and utilizing the OFIFC Integrated Database (IDB) reporting system.
