THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MANATEE COUNTY
Local Title: A/C REFRIGERATION MECHANIC II
State Title: HVAC MECHANIC
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To provide skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of refrigeration equipment. Work with DX, chilled water or other types of air conditioning/heating equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Four (4) years’ experience in the repair of commercial refrigeration equipment. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Possession of a valid Universal Refrigerant Certification – Types I, II, and III.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools commonly utilized in the installation, repair and maintenance of refrigeration equipment. Knowledge of basic air conditioning/heating systems and pneumatic and electric controls. Skilled in the use of a wide range of tools and shop equipment. Knowledge of safety standards and occupational hazards of the trade. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Ability to work in noisy and hot environments.

SUPERVISES:
N/A
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overhaul and service refrigeration equipment.
Repair, replace and adjust worn parts on condensers, compressors and water or vacuum pumps.
Test refrigeration equipment for leaks and make repairs in accordance with EPA standards.
Repair and adjust valves, piping connections, fittings and couplings.
Remove, install or rebuild motors, thermostats and other controls.
Adjust expansion valves, adjust or change belts and replace gaskets as necessary.
Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled.
Service refrigerators, freezers, coolers (including water coolers) and HVAC equipment for dry food storage areas.
Maintain records on refrigerant recovery and installation.
Maintain accurate records of daily work and time and payroll information.
Follow safety standards in performing work and report unsafe conditions to Lead/Manager in a timely manner.
May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.
Travel outside Manatee County as required in performance of duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee regularly is required to lift, hold, carry, sit, stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend, stoop, apply finger dexterity, grasp, feel, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear, and rely on visual acuity. The noise level in the work environment can be high at times. Safety is the highest priority.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
