Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Academic Advisor to support students in achieving their educational goals. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, experience with university systems, and a passion for mentoring and guiding students through their academic journey. This role involves providing personalized advising, facilitating group sessions, and collaborating with faculty to enhance student success. The Academic Advisor plays a vital role in fostering an engaging, supportive environment that encourages student retention and achievement.
Duties
Provide individual and group academic advising to students, assisting with course selection, degree planning, and career pathways.
Utilize systems such as TrackCC and Google Classroom to track student progress, update records, and generate reports.
Conduct interviewing sessions to understand student needs, goals, and challenges, offering tailored guidance.
Mentor students through academic challenges by offering mentoring and counseling, both individually and in groups.
Assist with recruiting efforts by promoting academic programs and advising prospective students about educational offerings.
Collaborate with faculty and administration to develop strategies that improve student engagement and retention.
Facilitate workshops on topics such as job readiness, Professional Development, time management, and study skills.
Maintain thorough documentation of advising sessions, progress notes, and action plans using education administration tools.
Support the school's mission by participating in campus events, orientation sessions, and outreach activities.
Qualifications
Proven experience in academic advising, education administration, or related roles within higher education settings.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage students through individual/group counseling and presentations.
Familiarity with education management systems such as TrackCC, Google Classroom, or similar platforms.
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; knowledge of career guidance experience is preferred.
Excellent analytical skills for assessing student needs, academic performance, and program effectiveness.
Ability to conduct engaging job readiness and Professional Development sessions and facilitate workshops or seminars.
Prior experience in mentoring, teaching, or conducting interviews enhances candidacy.
