Overview: The Senior Accountant oversees intricate accounting tasks and may provide guidance to team members involved in diverse financial operations. Reporting directly to higher-level management, this role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise the day-to-day operations of either a small accounting system, a significant segment within a larger system (e.g., general accounting, cost accounting), or a subsection of a complex accounting system.
2. Develop custom reports and statements essential for interpreting and analyzing financial trends.
3. Identify evolving needs in management information, auditing procedures, account structures, or automated accounting systems, and propose solutions or alternatives to management.
4. Monitor and review accounting reports for accuracy and completeness, including budget, revenue, expense, and payroll entries, invoices, and other transactions.
5. Analyze revenue and expenditure patterns, recommend suitable budgetary levels, and enforce expenditure controls.
6. Contribute to meetings to establish organizational accounting policies and procedures.
7. Provide guidance to departments on revenue and expenditure classification, offering technical support and training to staff on financial accounting and budget administration.
8. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Proficiency in computerized financial and accounting systems.
• Strong leadership abilities with experience in supervising and training staff.
• Advanced analytical skills to interpret financial data and generate reports, statements, and projections.
• Thorough understanding of professional accounting principles, methods, and procedures.
• Capability to analyze budgetary expenditures for compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
• Aptitude for developing or refining complex accounting procedures, methods, or techniques.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• Six years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least four years in a managerial or supervisory role. (An advanced degree in accountancy or CPA certification can substitute one year of experience.)
This position involves:
• Creating spreadsheets to depict routine financial reports, statements, comparisons, impacts, and projections, adhering to standard and fund accounting principles.
• Analyzing revenue and expenditure trends to maintain expenditure control and recommend appropriate budgetary levels.
• Developing, monitoring, and communicating accounting information, public and private auditing standards, budget details, and funding agencies' policies and procedures.
