Job description
Within the UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics, perform a broad range of accounting and financial analysis responsibilities, requiring attention to detail and effective collaboration with various divisions. The accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring financial compliance, accurate reporting, and efficient transaction processing.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Duties to include:

Financial Oversight and Budgeting
• Collaborate with the finance team to support the annual budgeting process.
• Monitor and provide regular updates on department philanthropic fund activities.
• Review and ensure appropriateness of financial charges across accounts; collaborate with units to validate charges and reconcile discrepancies.
• Conduct ongoing monitoring of accounts to prevent and address potential deficits.

Financial Reporting
• Complete routine Transaction Detail Report (TDR) reconciliation for administration accounts; following pre-established processes.
• Maintain, track, and update various account balances, including commitments, development funds.
• Play a significant role in a month-end and/or year-end accounting processes.
• Assist with monthly METs and annual PARS effort reporting.
• Financial Analysis and Planning
• Assist department staff and leadership in submitting capital requests in Stratajazz.
• Collaborate with HCIS/ITS to track, monitor, order, and request deployment of department computer inventory.
• Compliance with Policies, Regulations and Laws and Operational Oversight
• Review and audit transactions in compliance with University and department policies.
• Contribute to the recommendations and implementation of new policies and procedures and interpretation of existing policies and procedures.

Transaction Processing
• Process changes of status, annual increase, and special compensations for faculty
• Process Maui tuition payments.
• Prepare post accounting journal entries, request new whokey and update whokey admin.
• Request and track departmental P-cards, parking vouchers, access keys, copier and telecom services.

Leadership and Training
• Provide best practice training to others in accounting payable, University, and department policies.
• Advise leadership within the department on appropriate financial controls, transactions, and accounting processes.
• May provide functional and or administrative supervision (direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling) to assure outcomes are achieved.

Education Requirement
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications
• Minimum of one year’ experience in finance and accounting-related field.
• Previous experience demonstrating a high level of attention to detail.
• Moderate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications
• Knowledge of the University accounting system, process and procedures including Accounts Payable, Whokey, General Ledger, AP-PO, ProTrav.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
• Keen observation skills and commitment to maintaining accuracy.
