We are offering a short term contract opportunity for an Accountant in Providence, Rhode Island. This role involves performing key functions within our accounting department, including overseeing financial reporting, payroll, grant and contract accounting, and the usage of various accounting systems such as Sage and QuickBooks Advanced online.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the financial reporting process, including accounts receivable, financial statements, and cash reconciliation.

• Design, implement, and maintain accounting and financial systems to systematically and properly record financial activities.

• Provide training on the implemented accounting and financial systems.

• Design, implement, and maintain a system of internal controls for business operations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, accreditation requirements, and company policies.

• Prepare financial reports to satisfy federal, state, accreditation and higher education requirements.

• Manage the purchase card program and purchasing processes.

• Oversee general ledger, fixed-asset system, treasury functions, and year-end audit.

• Negotiate the indirect cost reimbursement rate for sponsored research.

• Stay updated on changes in regulations as well as best practices from professional bodies of authority such as FASB, GASB, and federal agencies.

• Maintain appropriate relationships with external auditors and institutional investor and financial public relations programs.• Possess competency in executing Accounting Functions

• Proficient in handling Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Experience in performing Auditing tasks

• Skilled in managing Balance Sheet Account

• Knowledgeable in Grant Accounting procedures

• Proficient in Fixed Asset Accounting

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or relevant certification is preferred

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high level of accuracy

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks

• Knowledge of federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations as related to accounting.
