Ad Hoc Community, Events & Building Cover – The Jointworks
Job description
Location: The Jointworks, 45 Frederick Street, Birmingham, B1 3HN
Contract: Casual / Ad hoc, paid hourly
Rate: Competitive hourly rate (to be confirmed)
About the role
We’re looking to build a small, reliable pool of friendly, practical, and proactive people who can provide cover at The Jointworks as needed. This flexible role is ideal for someone who is keen to be part of a creative community, enjoys people-focused work, likes keeping things running smoothly and has an interest in events management. Whether it’s covering for our Building & Community Manager, supporting an event, or managing the shop for a day - you’ll be the face of The Jointworks while you're here.
What you’ll be doing
Depending on the type of cover, tasks may include:
Building Management & General Operations
• Opening/closing the building and making sure it’s safe, secure, and tidy.
• Being the first point of contact for tenants, visitors, and deliveries.
• Troubleshooting issues or liaising with contractors/suppliers if needed.
• Keeping communal spaces clean, presentable, and functional.
Shop & Visitor Experience
• Welcoming guests and tenants with warmth and professionalism.
• Managing the Birmingham Design shop: handling payments and basic sales admin.
• Assisting with wayfinding or answering general queries.
Event Support (including evenings)
• Helping with room setup and basic AV (training provided).
• Supporting external hires or internal community events (e.g. greeting guests, managing guest lists, basic tech setup).
• Capturing photos or content if appropriate.
About you
We’re looking for friendly, can-do people who:
• Are dependable, punctual, and responsive to short-notice requests.
• Communicate clearly and enjoy interacting with people,
• Are confident taking ownership of a space and solving problems.
• Have basic tech and admin skills, or are willing to learn.
• Bonus if you’re already familiar with The Jointworks, BDF, or Birmingham’s creative scene or are keen to get involved in it!
Requirements
• A general level of physical ability (you might need to move furniture etc).
• Willingness to undertake brief Health & Safety and First Aid training.
• Availability for occasional evenings and/or weekends is a plus.
How it works
We’ll create a pool of trusted cover staff we can call on when needed. This might be for a full day, a few hours, or a weekend event. You’ll be booked in advance where possible, and paid hourly for time worked.

Please email enquire@thejointworks.com if you are interested in joining the team. Include a bit about yourself and why you’d be a good fit for the role. We’ll be in touch to discuss further and understand a bit more about your availability and suitability.
