Job Description
Experts in workplace health, injury management and safety, Acumen Health delivers the highest standard in services across personal injury and occupational health. The team at Acumen Health focus on recovery and function to get clients back to work and back to life whatever their age, stage, or situation. Our personal injury division provides services through federal and state-based Workers Compensations, Motor Accident Schemes and Life Insurance. Acumen Health is Australia’s exclusive provider of Occupational Rehabilitation services to the ADF.
The role:
This is an exciting and rare opportunity. Working as an ADF Backfill Rehabilitation Consultant, you will become a subject matter expert on all things Defence! You will support our existing team of Rehabilitation Consultants by providing cover for annual leave, sick leave and periods of vacancy to ensure continued care for our ADF Members. It’s a fast paced, exciting and somewhat challenging role with the need to pivot at short notice to ensure needs of the business and ADF members are met.
Based in either Adelaide or the Darwin area, this role will see you work across a number of ADF bases across Adelaide and/or the Northern Territory. You will enjoy diversity and the unique work setting that each Defence Force base has to offer. With all your travel and accommodation expenses covered, consider this a working holiday with purpose! Depending on your availability/preference for travel, choose to work across both States or just one.
Whichever base you’re working on, you can be sure that your role is truly meaningful and rewarding. Using your highly developed case management skills you will support our ADF members to return to a deployable status after injury or illness to defend and protect Australia by:
Applying your clinical reasoning skills to support ADF members who have sustained a physical and/or psychological injury
Conducting clinical assessments to determine member and ADF Unit needs including consultation with key stakeholders to determine the most appropriate rehabilitation direction for the member
Applying the return-to-work hierarchy to rehabilitation planning with a focus on supporting members to return to their pre-injury / deployable status where clinically indicated before considering medical transition
Developing plans to guide and implement rehabilitation programs in collaboration with relevant parties.
Seeking endorsement, implementing progressive work upgrades, and monitoring rehabilitation progress to achieve agreed rehabilitation goals
Providing quality insights / training opportunities as a result of varied caseload exposure
Supporting upskilling, supervising and onboarding new and existing ADF consultants across the region
Working with Team Managers on quality activities for on-base and off-base consultants.
KPI’s based on service delivery outcomes, NOT billable hours. Genuine person-centred focus and goal setting. This role will expose you to high level stakeholder engagement fast-tracking your career development pathways.
What will make you successful:
Current unrestricted registration or membership with the relevant industry body (AHPRA, ESSA, ASORC/RCAA or AASW)
Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counselling, Nursing, Osteopathy or Social Work
Strong clinical reasoning & passion to help people rehabilitate
Ability to work the hours 07:30 – 15:30 across various ADF bases (NT and/or SA)
Flexibility to travel across the Defence sites (sometimes at short notice)
Ability to engage across multidisciplinary teams to support the achievement of a common goal
12 months occupational rehabilitation experience
Experience with the ADF or Veterans will be highly regarded
