Job Description
Duration: 6-month contract (high likelihood of extension)
Location: Atlanta, GA
Work Type: Hybrid (2 days/week onsite preferred; open to remote, but strong preference for Atlanta-based candidates)
Interview Process: 1-2 rounds via MS Teams
Summary:
• This role sits within the Power division IT team, focused on bringing AI into an existing data environment (not starting from scratch, but AI is still new for them)
• The main goal is to design and build the foundation for AI systems, specifically ontologies (how data is structured and defined for AI) and knowledge graphs (how data is connected and used by AI models like ChatGPT)
• You’ll be responsible for taking early concepts/use cases and turning them into scalable, production-ready solutions (not just proofs of concept)
• Heavy focus on scaling AI systems — improving performance, avoiding duplication, and making sure the solutions can grow across the business
• This is a high-ownership, individual contributor role with visibility to leadership, including interaction with VPs
• Strong emphasis on documentation and governance — clearly defining what’s been built, how it works, and creating frameworks for future teams to follow (done = scalable + well-documented)
• Tech environment is cloud-based (AWS or Azure), using tools like AWS Neptune (for knowledge graphs), OpenAI/Azure AI, and documentation in Confluence (vendor-agnostic mindset)
Most Importantly:
• We need someone who has actually built an ontology and knowledge graph in a real environment
• This is about moving from concept → real delivery and scale
• You’ll help define how AI is structured and governed across the business
• Strong architectural thinking + communication + documentation are key
Required Skills & Experience
• Senior-level experience as a Data Architect or AI/Data Platform Architect
• Proven experience building ontologies from the ground up
• Hands-on experience leveraging industry-standard ontologies and adapting them to specific business contexts
• Experience designing and building knowledge graphs on top of ontologies
• Strong understanding of metadata management and data lineage
• Experience designing enterprise-scale data architectures for reuse across multiple use cases -Focus on scalability and performance of large-scale knowledge graphs
• Experience partnering closely with Data Science or AI leadership
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience with GenAI-enabled data architectures
• Background in regulated or standardized domains (e.g., medical, FAA, government
• Familiarity with semantic modeling, graph databases, and ontology tooling
• Experience supporting multiple AI/ML or GenAI solutions from a shared data foundation
• OEM industry exposure (not required, but beneficial)
