About the position
The Air Base Security Guard (ABSG) position is responsible for providing security and related services at various Air National Guard Bases (ANGBs) in New York. This role involves enforcing laws and regulations, patrolling areas, inspecting security measures, and ensuring the safety of personnel and resources. The ABSG operates under the supervision of the Unit Chief of Security Forces and must adhere to National Guard Bureau standards and agency policies.
Responsibilities
• Enforces standards of conduct and adherence to applicable laws, regulations and procedures within the Air National Guard (ANG) Area of Responsibility (AOR).

• Patrols flight line aircraft and other federal equipment to deter criminal activity.
,
• Performs inspections of weapons and ammunition vaults to ensure security.
,
• Questions suspicious persons and detains unauthorized individuals until authorities arrive.
,
• Controls entry and exit of military and civilian personnel and vehicles.
,
• Performs traffic control duties and responds to incidents and accidents.
,
• Maintains radio contact with Base Defense Operations Center personnel.
,
• Monitors alarm equipment and emergency response systems.
,
• Provides services necessary to secure location resources and personnel.
,
• Makes periodic checks of various areas as directed.
,
• Dispatches security personnel to scenes of incidents and irregularities.
,
• Maintains appropriate records of all actions taken.
Requirements
• Must be a member of the New York Air National Guard assigned to Security Police Flight or possess a current AFSC 3P051/3P071.

• Must have at least two years of verifiable military or civilian law enforcement experience with appropriate training.
,
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and a High School Graduate or equivalent (GED).
,
• Ability to read and write in English.
,
• Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
,
• Ability to push, pull, lift and carry heavy objects (50+ lbs).
,
• Ability to work outside in various temperatures and inclement weather.
,
• Must be legally eligible to obtain a permit to carry a handgun in New York State.

Benefits
• Annual salary range from $48,956 to $59,757.
