The Airfield Safety Officer is responsible for supporting RNZAF Base Auckland in all workplace safety related matters on or around the airfield at Whenuapai. The key purpose is to ensure the effectiveness and safety of all military air operations, making sure the airfield is safe to all users.

As the Airfield Safety Officer, you will be responsible for:

General airfield safety and associated administrative tasks.
Overseeing the safe movement of people, contractors and equipment on or around the airfield.
Aviation safety on works projects and facilities management tasks.
Assisting in the safe execution of wildlife management.
Managing air side driving permit training.
Building sustainable working relationships with internal stakeholders, relevant external agencies and Iwi.
Managing the booking process for the South Kaipara Air Weapons Range and assisting with general management/ admin as required.

Ideally, you will bring an understanding of aerodrome operations and managing the associated risks around this, however, we can provide opportunities for upskilling and training on the job.

Along with considerable experience in operations management, overseeing /coordinating the movement of people and resources, you will need the following:

Experience advising/ reporting on H&S requirements in the workplace.
A working knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation (advantageous).
Confidence; pro-active communication and presentation skills.
Adaptability, flexibility and great problem solving skills.
Confidence in relating to a wide range of professionals, building trusting relationships with stakeholders.
Passion for H&S work and a willingness to learn on the job.

Low Level Security Clearance

You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.
You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
