Job Description

Location: Kenepuru Community Hospital

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

We are looking for an Allied Health Assistant to join our team. The role is based in our inpatient wards at Kenepuru Hospital.

The person in this role will be taking on activities delegated by Allied Health Professionals including Neuro Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Speech Language Therapists, Dietitians, and Diversional Therapists. There is a lot of variety within the work that is delegated, and while the work is mostly in the ward setting, there may be times where you support a patient in the outpatient or home setting.

Our assistant team is the backbone of our allied health team - they provide support to all of the clinicians from taking on delegated tasks such as screening notes, acting as a second pair of hands for patient rehabilitation sessions, practicing daily living and rehabilitation tasks with patients, issuing equipment, facilitating group classes as well as being responsible for some administration tasks.

The ideal candidate will be willing to learn, be a great team player and enjoying working with a wide range of people, including older adults, people with neurological conditions or orthopaedic injuries, and older adults. You will be well supported by a friendly and experienced team.

About the Team/Service/ Location

This role sits within the wider Kenepuru Inpatient Allied Health team which consists of around 45 Allied Health staff from Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, Speech Language Therapy, Psychology, Diversional Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, and our Allied Health Assistants. We work together closely with nursing and medical colleagues to provide a service of high standard to patients and their families and whānau. We are a very supportive team; we provide training and learning opportunities, supervision, mentorship, and we celebrate our wins with food. It really is a warm and inviting space to work in. We are a team that loves to learn and upskill, and we encourage service-improvements that help the patients and the team. A perk worth mentioning is the free parking available on site.

Our current service improvements include introducing Inter-Professional-Practice models of care, and we continue to grow in our cultural responsiveness as a team and a service. We welcome anyone who is also on the journey to improve health equity outcomes for Maori and Pacific peoples to join us as we learn and improve together.
