A mature analytics capability, the Global Analytics Center (GAC), is a hub of advanced analytics competency, providing high-end analytics services across global businesses and global functions. Today, the GAC team generates value across the group through a wide variety of data and analytic solutions and related business consulting. GAC has become a one-stop shop for the group’s analytic needs leading the integration of analytics and data-driven decisions not only in traditional areas such as Risk, Retail, Wholesale, Private & Commercial Banking but also in new domains such as Regulatory, Operations, Procurement, Human Resources, and Financial Crime Risk. It provides support to various business groups and the job involves data analysis, model and strategy development & implementation, Business Intelligence, reporting and data management.

There are primarily four job families in GAC: Decision Sciences, Information Management, Business Consulting and MI Reporting. This role applies to the Decision Sciences job family within the Analytics function supporting various businesses and functions.

Global Business/Global Function (Ex: WPB, CMB, GRA etc.):

• Global Business/Global Function - Sub-Function (Fraud & CCS Decision Systems)

Fraud & Credit Control Services (CCS) is a first line of defence control function in WPB, with the core purpose of supporting the entire customer credit journey and creating sustainable outcomes for the Customer and the Bank.

GAC Fraud & Credit Decision Systems under WPB Credit Control Services is mainly responsible for the delivery and support of the Credit & Fraud risk management tools, systems and data across HSBC. The team also serves as a Decision Engine Centre of Excellence for multiple Account Originations/Management and Fraud Risk systems and supporting the Credit Bureau Management. We facilitate the deployment of account originations and management strategies through the FIM approved decision engine. The team would need to interface heavily between the Information Technology team and the end users.

The core functions include strategy deployment, data validations, process improvement, system documentation, providing consulting, guidance and delivering comprehensive risk management platforms to support risk management intelligence, analytics, MI generation, and ETL along with data management.

What you’ll do: (List out Key Responsibilities)

Job Description:

Decision Sciences job family is structured to address business problems with quantitative solutions like building of predictive algorithms / forecasting / scenario simulations etc.. Members of this Job Family are differentiated by their capability of converting a business problem into a quantitative construct, solve it with available statistical / mathematical methods (following the right rigour), engage with IT to implement and finally interpret the model outcomes in business language. The range of business problems may cover areas of business growth, improving customer experience, limiting risk exposure, capital quantification, enhancing internal business processes etc. They are required to, as necessary, embed agile & exploratory practices into their approach, justify the choice of appropriate methods to various internal and external reviewers. This talent group is expected to keep themselves apprised of latest developments and industry practices around emerging methodologies, techniques etc. and bring those in-house by applying them for better outcomes. A decision sciences job family member should be able to:-

• Apply relevant analytical methods / algorithms to get actionable insights from HSBC's internal (both structured and unstructured) and external data sources

• Partner with IT / Data Engineering teams to create deployment road-map

• Provide actionable solutions with clear articulation of recommendations for the business stakeholders across geographies

• Independently manage delivery of analytics projects by working with business partners across regions / geographies

• Work in an agile model in a cross functional set-up

Decision Systems team member has the following accountabilities:

• Work collaboratively with the Business partners to develop, deploy and monitor the Account Management and Origination’s strategies. The strategies are deployed through Experian TRIAD/ Power Curve/ SAS ID.

• Provide consulting for the Account origination and management decisioning tools.

• Suggest pro-active solutions to the issues/incidents reported on the Account Management/Origination tools

• Manage in-house Reporting/Dashboards

• Periodically participate on projects geared to improve process and technology to advance capabilities in the decisioning aspect of Account Management and originations.

• Take personal responsibility for surfacing and solving issues

• Prepare presentations and develop recommendations for processes

• Adhere strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with company and regulatory standards, policies and practices.

Management of Risk/Internal Controls/Compliance:

The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.

The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

What you will need to succeed in the role: (Minimum Qualification and Skills Required)

Skills/Experience Required:

Eligibility Criteria -

• Proven expertise on SAS/ Python/ PCSM programing is a MUST.

• Minimum 2.5+ years of successful track record of leading technology (functional) projects with aggressive timelines across the organization

• Experience on Vendor Decision or Analytics product(s) is preferred. E.g. SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Decision Manager/Intelligent Decision /RTDM, Experian SMg3 / Powercurve, FICO TRIAD, Blaze Advisor, Pega, Provenir etc.

• Investigative and consultancy mind with penchant for the latest technologies and continuous learn and adapt capability.

• Strong communication, stakeholder management, presentation and interpersonal skills.

• Strong problem solving skills, adaptability to change and changing work priorities and ability to drive results.

• Ability to work under pressure and achieve agreed deadlines; work on multiple items concurrently where required. Ability to operate well across cultures and in multi-cultural diverse work environments.

• Knowledge of Risk Underwriting processes or exposure to process design, re-engineering and managing change. Exposure to Banking Analytics or equivalent experience in Business, Finance or related field will be good to have.

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in any of the discipline like Computer Science, IT ,Operations Research, Economics , Mathematics from a reputed university or MCA from a reputed university.

Functional requirements

• Exposure to decision tools like Experian SMg3/Power Curve/ TRIAD etc. would be preferred

• Must have work experience in the Business Financial services industry

• Excellent coding and testing skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with background in technical and business communications

• Excellent inter-personal skills, comfortable and successful establishing professional relationships

• Proven mentoring skills

• Demonstrated ability to meet critical time-sensitive objectives, emphasis on planning skills

• Good organizational, project management, analytical, problem-solving and verbal/written communication skills.

• Good knowledge of MS Office would be an added advantage

Soft Skills requirements

• Written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop and effectively communicate complex concepts and ideas.

• Ability to work in cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal skills and drive for success.

• Maintain the level of communication/interaction across the team and direct manager including onshore business partners.

• Strong analytical skills with business analysis aptitude. Knowledge and understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations is advantageous.
