Department: Otolaryngology, Department of Surgery
Location: East Melbourne
Duration: 12 months (part-time, 0.66FTE)
The University of Melbourne is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented individual to support cutting-edge research and teaching activities as an Animal Technician.
Responsibilities include providing daily care, monitoring health, performing euthanasia when required, and ensuring the wellbeing of research animals.
Additional tasks involve assisting in preparing animals for procedures, maintaining colonies, and ensuring compliance with ethical standards.
Collaboration and training are also key components of this role, including working closely with researchers and participating in training activities.
Key Requirements:
Diploma of Animal Technology or equivalent qualification
Experience in animal handling techniques and maintaining accurate records
Knowledge of regulatory systems governing animal research
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Practical experience in a research setting and familiarity with quarantine requirements and breeding programs
Comfortable with physical activities including manual handling and animal restraint
