ABOUT US
The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.
Why this role matters
The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of ******* and other drug (AOD) programs, delivering vital services including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction initiatives. But our work goes far beyond treatment — we create spaces where people feel seen, valued, and supported.
At Salvos, we walk alongside individuals in some of the most challenging chapters of their lives, offering not just care, but hope. We believe in restoring dignity, rebuilding lives, and empowering people to move forward safely, with compassion and purpose.
About the role
At The Salvation Army, we believe recovery is possible — and that every person deserves care that is safe, respectful, and life-changing. Canberra Recovery Centre stands as a place of renewal and hope for people navigating the complexities of AOD dependence.
We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Service Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team within our residential and non-residential services based in the ACT. This full-time permanent role (SCHADS Award Level 7) is an opportunity to lead with purpose, inspire others, and make a tangible difference every day.
How you will make an impact
Lead high-quality, person-centred services aligned with TSA guidelines, accreditation, and evidence-based practice.
Oversee clinical governance, risk management, and continuous improvement to ensure safe, effective care.
Ensure services are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to diverse client needs.
Manage operations, including budgets, contracts, facilities, and program systems, with accountability and care.
Provide oversight of service delivery, including Community Based Services, ensuring consistency and impact.
Foster a culture where client feedback, safety, and dignity are central to service delivery.
Lead, support, and develop team leaders and staff to build a capable, values-driven workforce.
Drive a positive, inclusive culture that prioritises wellbeing, accountability, and purpose.
Oversee recruitment, rostering, and workforce planning to ensure effective service delivery.
Manage performance, development, and workforce issues with fairness and compassion.
Drive local strategy and service growth aligned with national priorities.
Embed client voice, data, and evidence into planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
Identify service gaps, emerging trends, and opportunities for innovation and expansion.
Lead accreditation readiness and maintain strong relationships with funding bodies and stakeholders.
Build and strengthen partnerships, referral pathways, and integrated service responses.
Represent TSA in sector forums and contribute to leadership and sector development.
What you will bring
A degree in social work, psychology, welfare, community development, or a related field.
Significant experience in the AOD sector, including at least 5 years in leadership roles.
A strong track record of leading complex services, supporting teams, and navigating compliance frameworks with confidence.
Deep understanding of trauma-informed, harm minimisation, and recovery-oriented models of care.
A strategic and reflective mindset, with the ability to use data to guide growth and improvement.
A genuine passion for social justice and delivering inclusive, person-centred care.
Experience within the criminal justice space (desirable).
Broad knowledge of risk management and clinical governance.
What we offer
Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax free, plus $2,650 meal entertainment benefits.
Generous paid parental leave (12 weeks for primary carers), a Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks), and 5 days paid leave annually to experience other TSA programs.
Access to Employee Assistance Programs and wellbeing initiatives, including Fitness Passport.
Ongoing learning and development opportunities to help you grow and thrive.
A truly meaningful career where your work contributes to lasting, positive social impact.
How to apply
This is more than a job — it is an opportunity to change lives, lead with heart, and be part of something bigger. You will help shape services, support dedicated teams, and contribute to real, systemic change within a respected national organisation.
Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your alignment with the role.
Together, we can create lasting change — and build a more compassionate, inclusive future.
The Salvation Army is an Equal Opportunity Employer who provides an inclusive work environment and embraces the diverse talent of its people. We value people of all cultures, languages, capacities, ****** orientations, gender identities and/or expressions. We are committed to achieving a diverse workforce and strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people.
The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All child facing roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. Applicants for all roles require a mandatory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
