Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable AP Science Tutor to support high school students in mastering advanced science topics and preparing for AP exams. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in various science disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, with experience in tutoring and curriculum development. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans, utilizing learning technology, and fostering a positive learning environment to help students achieve academic success. The tutor will work closely with students to enhance their understanding of complex concepts such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, anatomy, physiology, and more. Responsibilities
Develop and implement customized lesson plans aligned with AP curriculum standards across multiple science subjects including biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
Utilize various learning technologies and digital tools to enhance student engagement and understanding.
Provide one-on-one or group tutoring sessions focusing on topics such as trigonometry, geometry, calculus, differential equations, statistics, data structures, and discrete math.
Assist students in understanding complex scientific concepts like microbiology, genetics, anatomy, physiology knowledge, organic chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, machine learning, and higher education teaching methods.
Support students in developing effective study strategies and exam preparation techniques for AP exams.
Foster a positive classroom environment with effective classroom management skills tailored for diverse learners including children and adult learners.
Track student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student achievements.
Collaborate with parents or guardians when appropriate to discuss student progress and areas for improvement.
Experience
Prior experience working with students at the high school or college level in STEM subjects is highly preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development across science disciplines such as biology (including microbiology, genetics), chemistry (including organic chemistry), physics (including mechanics), mathematics (including algebra, geometry, calculus), and related fields like biochemistry or chemical engineering.
Experience with classroom management techniques suitable for both children (preschool or early childhood education) and adult learners.
Familiarity with learning technology platforms and digital educational tools used for online tutoring or classroom instruction.
Proven ability to develop engaging lesson plans tailored to individual student needs.
Strong computer skills including proficiency with data structures or programming languages relevant to computer science or machine learning applications is advantageous.
Experience working with diverse student populations including those requiring special education services or preschool experience is a plus. Pay: $28.64 - $45.50 per hour
