We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. Introduction:
Barclays is embarking upon a transformation of its Business Banking technology stack to microservices architecture. We believe that our roadmap is one of the most exciting and innovative in the banking industry. This hands-on role will be responsible for developing solutions on a Java/SpringBoot platform to enable internal systems, external partners (brokers) and customers to engage with us quickly and seamlessly.

What will you be doing?

• Hands-on Java development to deliver solution in Java from end to end application perspective, including UI, Middle tier and internal and external API perspective.

• Follow a detailed application delivery roadmap and design of each individual component while ensuring that development and architecture standards are maintained.

• Work in an Agile delivery model for the team, and facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, show & tells, retrospectives, and other ceremonies.

• Collaborate with other teams with responsibility for systems of record, UI components, etc. to ensure successful end-to-end delivery.

• Ensure the components are resilient, scalable and performance driven, by performing various testing strategies to prove it.

• Build software to standards and of high quality. Responsible for testing of self and / or peer-developed code.

• Minimum 6 years of experience in related fields.

What we're looking for:

• Skilled Java engineer with experience in design and implementation of end-to-end solutions.

• Understand and define design patterns and application security aspects combined with experience in developing REST APIs using Spring Data REST and Springboot Framework.

• Proficient on at least one UI technologies – Angular, React. Can design and develop industry standard UI component.

• Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to find ways to overcome obstacles and self-teach new concepts

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or similar.

Skills that will help you in the role :

• Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate and present technical concepts with clarity. Ready to take up new language knowledge on Scala (if not already known).

• Experience in working with relational databases like Oracle, MySQL.

• Experience in an agile delivery environment while also working with multi-location teams. Aware of and comfortable in working within regulatory controls.

• Able to influence and drive change and improvement in the way the team develops software.

• Experience in working with Docker and Kubernetes, such as in an OpenShift environment.
