Our client in Oak Brook, IL is seeking a seasoned Application Architect to support their Distribution Standards team. This is a senior‑level role focused on supporting and modernizing legacy application environments rather than deep greenfield development. The ideal candidate will bring hands‑on application experience, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to clearly articulate technology needs to external partners.
This role is not high‑pressure or intensely hands‑on day‑to‑day coding, but it requires deep technical credibility, practical experience with older technologies, and the ability to translate business and engineering needs into actionable application and technology guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the Application Architect supporting the Distribution Standards organization
• Partner closely with distribution engineers, material engineers, and internal IT teams
• Act as a technical liaison, clearly communicating application and infrastructure needs to Exelon
• Provide architectural guidance and support for legacy and enterprise applications
• Assess application capabilities, dependencies, and constraints within existing platforms
• Translate team requirements into clear technical recommendations and roadmaps
• Support ongoing improvements and stability of critical systems without disruptive over‑engineering
• Senior‑level experience as an Application Architect, Solution Architect, or comparable role
• Hands‑on application experience in the past—must be able to speak confidently and practically about technology
• Strong background working with legacy / older technologies
• Proven ability to collaborate with engineering‑heavy teams
• Experience with:
• Microsoft Visual (Visual Basic / Visual Studio)
• SQL
• Microsoft Access
• Experience with Asset Suite and IFS (IBM‑based technologies) is required
• Ability to clearly articulate technical and application needs to internal and external stakeholders
• Strong communication skills—comfortable translating between technical, engineering, and business audiences
