Urban Life Solutions is currently looking for an Automotive Apprentice to work with our Fleet & Facility team in Calgary. This position will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing and providing repairs to landscaping, maintenance, construction and snow and ice removal equipment. Day and Night shifts available.
Job Summary Reporting to the Fleet & Facility Manager, this position will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing and providing repairs to maintenance, construction and snow and ice removal equipment.
Major Responsibilities
Demonstrate safety leadership and safe work practices at all times
Work in accordance with ULS policies and procedures
Troubleshoot and service various maintenance, construction, and snow/ice removal equipment in both a shop environment and in the field as required
Utilize manuals and diagnostic equipment to perform work duties
Work with Supply chain to ensure consumables are in stock
Maintain work orders (Triage job opportunities in SharePoint)
Assist in the management of repairs
Ensure safety and cleanliness of shop
Complete safety training as required
Use of Hydrostatic tools and equipment
Install replacement parts
Fabrication of engineered alterations
Use mechanical lifting devices and winches
Basic/Required Qualifications
Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in a similar role
Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and proof of current Driver’s Abstract
Possesses own tools
Ability to read and comprehend work orders
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage tasks in a timely and efficient manner
Demonstrated willingness to learn and succeed
Ability to take direction and work independently as well as part of a team
All successfully candidates must provide a recent criminal record check as part of employment
Legally Authorized to Work in Canada with no restrictions
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency with computer maintenance programs
Experience with Tow Trucks will be an asset
Hydraulic AND Diesel engine diagnostic experience
Working Conditions
Work schedule of 4 days per week/10 hours per day
Working within both indoor (60-80%) and outdoor (up to 40%) work environments; ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures, dusty and loud work environments
Mechanical aptitude
Full range of body motion; including repetitive motions which specifically affect upper body use
Considerable standing, walking, squatting, pushing/pulling, grasping, lifting and reaching
Some climbing, sitting and driving
Manual and finger dexterity as well as eye-hand and foot coordination
Ability to perform tasks involving heavy lifting/carrying of items up to 80lbs
Working within both indoor and outdoor work environments; ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures, dusty and loud work environments
