About the role
We are seeking an Apprentice Heavy Diesel Fitter / Plant Mechanic to join our Braeside-based maintenance team. This role is designed for someone at the start of their trade and provides structured, hands-on learning across a specialised fleet of heavy plant and geotechnical equipment used on major projects nationwide.
You will work closely with experienced tradespeople while completing a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (Plant Mechanic) or equivalent qualification.
What you will learn
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be trained in:
Servicing and maintaining heavy plant and mobile equipment
Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines
Working with hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, and cylinders
Mechanical repairs to drivetrains, transmissions, and braking systems
Basic electrical fault-finding on plant equipment
Planned maintenance and breakdown repairs
Safe work practices, isolation procedures, and workshop standards
Understanding plant maintenance schedules and documentation
Key responsibilities
Assist qualified tradespeople with servicing and repairs
Support planned and reactive maintenance activities
Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop housekeeping
Follow all safety, quality, and environmental procedures
Actively participate in on-the-job and formal training
About you
Genuine interest in heavy diesel mechanics and plant equipment
Willingness to learn, ask questions, and follow instructions
Reliable, punctual, and safety focused
Able to work effectively in a team environment
Construction White Card (or willingness to obtain)
Positive attitude and strong hands-on work ethic
