The Role
Defence is looking for an energetic Social Media Officer who thrives in a fast-paced and challenging environment. As a Social Media Specialist, you will work both independently and collaboratively to support Defence’s strategic communication objectives and outcomes. The role requires efficiency, effectiveness and the ability to adapt to changing priorities, reflecting the responsibilities and expectations of an APS 5-level professional within the organisation. Key duties/responsibilities include:

Plan, write and schedule content in line with communication strategies.
Manage social media account spreadsheets in line with reporting needs.
Complete community management tasks and respond to policy enquiries.
Analyse performance data to deliver quality campaign insights.
Contribute to the development of operational dashboards.
Provide out-of-hours support on a rostered basis, as required.

About our Team
Associate Secretary Group (ASG) is a diverse group led by the Associate Secretary to provide integrity, assurance, governance and support functions for the Department. ASG supports Defence through the management of senior committees, enterprise planning, performance and risk management functions. ASG integrates the work of different parts of the Defence Organisation to get more effective and efficient outcomes, particularly in the areas of service delivery and reform. ASG consists of Defence Integrity, Governance and Reform, Defence Security and Vetting Service, Ministerial and Executive Coordination and Communication, Legal and Military Justice Organisations.

Our Team, The Defence Social Media Hub within the Defence News Bureau (DNB) is responsible for:
Whole-of-Defence social media strategy, policy, process, training, content guidance, crisis management, reputational analysis, technical support, and account consolidation;
Data analysis and content creation and management for the Department of Defence and Chief of the Defence Force accounts;
Maintaining the whole-of-Defence Social Media Playbook and relevant guides; and
Coordinating the Defence Social Media Working Group. The DNB sits within the Media and Information Disclosure (MID) Branch that is responsible for day-to-day media operations across Defence.
MID Branch brings together media and communication operations to ensure the department’s messaging is clear, consistent and up to the expected standards. We offer an inclusive environment underpinned by the Defence Values of Service, Courage, Respect, Integrity and Excellence.

Our Ideal Candidate
The candidate we are seeking will possess strong copywriting and coordination skills while also demonstrating an eagerness to engage with the multifaceted aspects of data management. They will undertake content creation tasks and perform procedural and administrative support work to achieve results. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with social media collateral design, analysing data or working with information from various sources.

Experience or understanding of social media tools, collection management systems, and digital asset management systems is highly advantageous. Key attributes include the ability to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes; be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development; and have an effective and collaborative working style.
