APS6 Case Officer

Location: Canberra (remote work options available)

Duration: 12-18 months Non-Ongoing or s26 Transfer

Clearance: Baseline Security Clearance Required

A government agency is seeking dedicated APS6 Case Officers to manage high-stakes applications, supporting individuals facing significant legal challenges-from international child abduction cases to defendants facing the death penalty overseas.

As an APS6 Case Officer, you will:

Assess and manage applications for legal financial assistance under statutory and non-statutory schemes

Liaise directly with applicants, their legal representatives and government agencies

Conduct detailed case analysis and draft recommendations for decision-makers

Draft ministerial correspondence and responses to general inquiries

Engage in ongoing process improvements to enhance service delivery

Work autonomously while being supported by a collaborative team

My Client is Looking For:

Experience in grants administration, casework or financial management (Commonwealth Grants Guidelines knowledge is a plus!)

Strong analytical, writing and stakeholder engagement skills

Ability to handle complex, sensitive cases with empathy and professionalism

Resilient and adaptable individuals comfortable managing emotionally challenging matters

Note: This is not your standard grants role-it requires a unique skill set and the ability to work with vulnerable individuals in high-pressure situations.
