Workflow as a Service(WfaaS) team’s objective is to provide the best cloud workflow platform for Avalara application teams to model end-to-end processes, design and execute complex business process orchestration flows and simplify Agent business task handling through Jobs framework.
• Workflow Engine: Tax compliance management is complex and involves multiple business processes, actors and many business rules. Imagine building a Workflow platform to ease the application building process in designing and running process orchestration flows.
• Low Code Workflow Authoring: To reduce the coding effort required in building workflows and process integration, it is required to provide an abstraction interface to Workflow engine in Avalara Studio to author workflow definitions in low code way. This is to empower developers to design, code and test their workflows seamlessly without worrying about underlying engine.
• Jobs Framework: It is not just about authoring workflows. Avalara agents are required to act on pending tax returns and registrations & Licensing as soon as those are ready to prevent from missing strict compliance requirement guidelines. Workflow platform needs to provide a way to design these agent tasks as Jobs in business process flows to help them act on them quickly and efficiently.

• Lead the end-to-end design, development, testing, and deployment of integrations between ERP systems (such as SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, NetSuite) and popular eCommerce platforms (such as Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce).
• Architect custom APIs, connectors, and middleware to facilitate data exchange, synchronization, and real-time communication between different systems.
• Design and implement frameworks and features instrumental in building the next generation of Integrations.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to ERP and eCommerce systems, and proactively recommend enhancements to the integration process.
• Represent the Integrations team at Architecture Review board
• Provide technical leadership for new designs and evangelize best practices and guidelines implementation.
• Participate in design discussions, build POC, and contribute to delivering high-quality products/features/frameworks.
• Ensure the team is not creating technical debts.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and expert groups on code reviews and test plans with an eye towards automation.
• Taking corrective measures to address problems and anticipating problems in new designs and work.
• Focus on optimization, performance, security, observability, scalability, and telemetry.
• Lead discussions with stakeholders on requirements and design aspects related to critical technical components, frameworks, interfaces, etc.
• Be an author who documents the architectural decisions, designs, comparisons, and analysis.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.
Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor/master’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• have 15+ years of full-stack experience in a software development role, shipping complex applications to large-scale production environments.
• Expert in C# or Java programming language.
• Knowledge of architectural styles and design patterns to solve complex problems with simple, intuitive design.
• Experience in architecting, building, and deploying (CI/CD) highly scalable distributed systems and frameworks for small businesses and enterprises.
• Experience working on AWS Cloud and DevOps (Terraform, Docker, ECS, etc.) would be beneficial.
• Experience working on BPMN and any Workflow engine such as Camunda, Temporal, Step functions would be beneficial.
• Experience working in an Agile team with hands-on experience with TDD and BDD.
• Experience in converting monoliths to microservices or serverless architecture.
• You should be self-motivated and focus on automating everything.
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to solve complex problems and critical production issues.
• Passion to see your product be the best in the business.
• TOGAF, AWS Solutions Architect, or similar certifications.
