Responsibilities
Collate and organize technical building information
Assist in the development of architectural design, contract, bidding, and statutory approval documents
Prepare and submit applications for approval by regulatory authorities
Prepare designs using CAD and traditional drafting methods
Conceptual design using AutoCAD, Revit, and similar software
Prepare specifications, material take-offs, and cost estimates from conceptual drawings and instructions
Reference provincial and national building codes to support architectural drawings and specifications
Develop architectural models, including physical models and 3D virtual representations
Investigate and provide technical input on factors affecting building development, including user needs, site conditions, surveys, and regulatory requirements
Monitor designs for health and safety considerations and contribute to risk assessments
Coordinate with sub-consultants including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, sprinkler, and other specialty disciplines
Conduct site visits, including:
On-site inspections to verify compliance with design intent, regulations, and codes
Confirming existing site dimensions
Reviewing work completed by others on site
Attend meetings with potential and existing clients, providing updates on drawing progress and technical input
Participate in trade meetings as the design liaison
Review and approve sub-consultant invoices
Review, track, and manage shop drawings received from the construction team
Coordinate internal and external requests for detailed design information
Prepare and maintain tracking logs including shop drawings, site instructions, and addenda
Maintain consultant contact lists
Coordinate with municipalities and regulatory boards as required
Collaborate and share knowledge with fellow drafting team members
Research and stay current on new design processes, building legislation, and emerging technologies
Qualifications
Completion of a two to three-year post-secondary program in Architectural Technology or a related field
Certification in Architectural Technology or a related discipline through a provincial association of architectural or engineering/applied science technologists and technicians
Two to five years of related experience in the construction industry
Minimum two years of hands-on experience using AutoCAD, Revit, and/or similar design software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office or equivalent productivity tools
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for site visits
Job Types: Part-time, Casual
Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
