Primary objective

An Assistant Applications Officer (AAO) assists in the management of applications for financial assistance from victims of violent crime

across the Northern Territory to optimise outcomes for applicants in accordance with relevant legislation.

Context statement

The AAO works with other CVSU Applications Officers to process applications for financial assistance from victims of violent crime. An

AAO works directly with applicants (or their representatives) to ensure an applicant's attendance at specialist medical assessments as

required. An AAO also provides administrative support to the management of caseloads, by searching for and requesting information,

maintaining databases and responding to queries from applicants or their representatives.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Liaise with Applications Officers, medical service providers and applicants /representatives to help applicants to attend required

specialist assessments, including by establishing applicants' interpreter, travel and accommodation requirements.

2. Coordinate and manage all specialist appointment bookings, by finding appropriate, cost-effective travel, accommodation and

interpreter options, preparing correspondence, seeking financial approvals, reminding applicants / representatives of upcoming

appointments and ensuring assessment reports are provided.

3. Evaluate new applications, including by searching the court database (lJlS), and sort them into processing categories for allocation.

4. Provide administrative support to progress applications, by deciding which records are required (from police, medical providers,

employers and other services), updating databases, responding to queries from applicants /representatives, closing files and

performing other unit administrative tasks as required.

5. Assist the applications team as required, including undertaking short-term administration of file loads when Applications Officers are

unavailable.

6. Provide administrative and other support to officers of the unit, as required, including providing assistance to clients and relieving

other AO4 CVSU officer functions when required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Effective oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of victims of violent crime and other stakeholders,

including medical providers, travel and accommodation service providers, and other Government agencies.

2. Demonstrated ability to plan, program and coordinate workloads with changing priorities, apply problem-solving skills and to use

initiative.

3. Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision and as part of a team, and to contribute to organisational values.

4. Well-developed cross-cultural awareness and the ability to relate appropriately to people from a wide range of socioeconomic

backgrounds from urban, rural and remote areas across the Northern Territory.

5. Demonstrated ability in administration and/or file management, together with the use of associated computer programs.

Desirable

1. Knowledge of the issues and challenges in providing assistance to victims of violent crime,

3. Experience with Territory Records Manager (TRM), Integrated Justice Information System (IJlS), Travel Request Information

Processing System (TRIPS), NTGpay and MS Office products or ability to obtain.
