Assistant Compliance and Regulatory Officer

Grade: 5/6
Salary range: $99,938-$110,271 + superannuation and leave loading
Duration: temporary full time role for up to 12 months
Location: Hybrid with an in-office requirement 2 days a week in Sydney, McKell. This may be subject to change in line with DCS workplace policies

Support regulatory integrity and help strengthen compliance culture across a critical NSW Government agency.
We are seeking a motivated compliance professional to support the delivery of strategic and operational compliance activities across NSW Telco Authority, contributing to strong governance, regulatory assurance and informed decision‑making.
About the team

This role sits within the Compliance Team in the NSW Telco Authority.

The team is responsible for ensuring NSWTA meets its legislative, regulatory, policy and contractual obligations. The Compliance Team identifies, manages and mitigates risks of non‑compliance and plays a key role in promoting a culture that values compliance awareness, continuous improvement and proactive risk management across the organisation.

Your responsibilities will include
Assisting with the delivery of strategic and targeted compliance activities, including audits and comprehensive reviews, to support organisational compliance.
Supporting the preparation, presentation and assessment of compliance evidence and reports in line with legislative and regulatory requirements to inform decision‑making.
Conducting research and participating in compliance activities that contribute to organisational and regulatory outcomes.
Contributing to the development, implementation and review of policies, procedures and standards to improve the quality, efficiency and timeliness of compliance and reporting.
Maintaining awareness of relevant committees, working groups and agency forums and actively participating in discussions on key developments and milestones.
Providing timely, clear and well‑reasoned compliance advice to internal and external stakeholders.
Maintaining currency with procedures, policies and legislative changes and contributing recommendations to support continuous improvement.
Identifying potential instances of fraud and/or non‑compliance and supporting escalation through evidence gathering and reporting processes.

To be successful in this role you will have

Demonstrated experience working in a compliance, regulatory or governance role, including interpreting and analysing legislation and regulatory frameworks.
Experience participating in or supporting audits, reviews or compliance activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and provide practical compliance advice.
Well‑developed interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and stakeholders.

Nice to have:

Experience working within a government or highly regulated environment.
Exposure to audits and conducting gap analysis, reporting or regulatory frameworks.
Experience contributing to policy and procedural development and review.
