Your Opportunity:
Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is looking for an active and enthusiastic Assistant Head Nurse to join our team. The Assistant Head Nurse- Nursing Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the daily operation of the MHRH bed coordination and patient flow. This position will provide direction and leadership within the MHRH Site to maintain and support appropriate patient flow, admission to inpatient Acute Care areas via Emergency Department, transfers or direct admits, coordination with community-based service providers, repatriation, and RAAPID coordination, while supporting the vision, mission and values statements of Alberta Health Services. The principles of patient and family centered care will be utilized to guide practice and build operational relationships. Working collaboratively with the Site Manager, the Assistant Head Nurse- Nursing Supervisor will participate in strategic planning, resource management and implementation, and maintenance of standards of practice. Safe and optimum care will be supported through evidenced based practice, effective leadership and collaboration with the physicians, and the inter-professional team. As an Assistant Head Nurse you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
A demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. The incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Strong organizational and leadership skills including demonstrated ability for analytical decision making, coaching, mentorship and conflict resolution. Excellent verbal communication skills demonstrated by ability to negotiate complex family and staff situations. Collaborative skills in communicating with internal and external partners involved with the continuum of care. Commitment to quality improvement and a culture of safety for staff, families and patients. A minimum of three years leadership experience (e.g. Charge Nurse) required. A minimum of five years clinical experience in Acute Care. Inpatient medical or surgical nursing experience required. ICU and/or Emergency Department experience is desirable. Demonstrated clinical competence in assessment all ages required. Ability to manage stressful situations and provide calm assertive direction to multidisciplinary teams is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong leadership skills. Excellent working knowledge of facility workflow. Experience as a Bed Utilization Nursing/Nursing Supervisor.
