Our 4,600 alumni are on the path to living an empowered life. Today Akanksha runs 26 schools in partnership with governments of Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Navi Mumbai and Nagpur serving ~13,000 children in grades Jr Kg - Gr10.
What your role will entail
Maintenance of the library:
Arrange books and tidy library
Label and repair books
Carry out periodical book inventory
Reorganize library and remove old book
Obtaining new books and making them available:
Lend books and develop and maintain administration and search system
Make proposals/give advice about new library material to be obtained (based on recommendations from students as teachers)
Attract sponsors/book donors
Library Education:
Give students user instructions/library lessons and help with where to find which information
Coach kids and teachers on which books are appropriate for which levels
Coach teachers about the book collection in the library and its uses for their lessons
Stimulate Reading:
Initiate, participate in and carry out student library projects (eg. periodical read aloud sessions in classroom, give prize for biggest book lover of the month, have a book/author of the month display, quizzes across school to get kids to the library)
Inform teachers about how much their class is reading, if students return books on time, which books they like etc.
Budget Management:
Check invoices
Budget monitoring
Maintenance network (libraries of related schools, city library, book suppliers, BCL) and contribute to public relations activities of the school
Required Qualifications
● B.Lib./M.Lib.
● Knowledge of books and grade appropriate content
● Possesses strong reading skills
● Ability to coach and guide students and teachers on reading skills & content
● Works as part of a team.
● Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
● Contributes effectively to achieve school goals.
● Openness to feedback and critical reflection.
● Good planning and organizing skills
● Computer skills
