Job Description

The National Policy & Reform team supports NSW's contribution to national Early Childhood Education and Care initiatives and policy reform. We're looking for someone who can bring strong coordination and organisational skills to our policy development and secretariat functions.


You will prepare meeting papers and minutes, track actions, and contribute to the drafting and coordination of policy advice to support NSW's input into national forums.


Attention to detail and clear written communication are important, and you'll be supported by an experienced and collaborative team that works together to maintain high standards and support each other's learning.


The Early Childhood Outcomes (ECO) division is responsible for ensuring all children make a strong start in life and learning and make a successful transition to school. The division will transform early childhood education and care, child development and contribute to women’s economic participation in NSW through improved access, affordability and quality of care and services.

About you –



As the Assistant Policy Officer you will be able to:


Deliver a variety of administrative support functions, such as coordinating working groups and committees, to facilitate stakeholder engagement and contribute to policy development and implementation.
Address routine policy enquiries by providing clear and consistent advice and information, informed by input from subject matter experts.
Managing several policy support tasks simultaneously while meeting agreed standards, objectives, and tight deadlines amid competing priorities.
Produce clear, concise, and well-structured written briefs that effectively convey key information and support informed decision-making.


Essential requirements of the role

A valid Working With Children Check
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
