Position Information
Werrington Public School is a medium-sized public school located in the outer western suburbs of Sydney, within the Penrith Local Government Area. In 2026, the school enrols approximately 512 students across twenty-one mainstream classes and five support classes for students with physical and multi-categorical disabilities. 12.5% of students identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and 31% are from language backgrounds other than English. The school proudly supports a number of families from refugee backgrounds. Werrington Public School serves a community experiencing socio-economic disadvantage.
The school is committed to evidence-based teaching and learning and implements Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) to foster a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. Our Learning Support Centre delivers specialist programs for students requiring additional academic or developmental support and maintains strong partnerships with the Wellbeing Health In Reach Nurse (WHIN) program.
Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary, with the capacity to balance and maintain quality classroom practice while leading, coaching and supporting colleagues to strengthen teaching, learning and student outcomes.
Demonstrated leadership in modelling and building a positive, high-expectations school culture through proactive behaviour support, including Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), that enhances student engagement and belonging.
Capacity to lead collaborative approaches with families, external agencies and community partners to manage complex situations and strengthen student outcomes.
Ability to lead inclusive practices by working alongside teachers to design and implement adjustments, behaviour supports and responsive strategies that meet diverse student needs.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
