Job Description
We’re looking for a creative and highly organized Assistant Producer to join our production team. Working closely with senior producers, you’ll support the development and delivery of compelling, purpose-driven stories, from early research and planning through to post-production.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with pre-production planning, including shoot schedules, call sheets, site checklists, budgets, and production documentation
Research and coordinate production logistics such as locations, permits, equipment rentals, crew, travel, and international requirements including visas
Support story development by assisting with research, scripting, and shaping narrative arcs that reflect the tone, purpose, and emotional depth of each episode or segment
Help structure episodes using interviews, B-roll, and archival material to create clear, engaging, and informative stories
Liaise with crew, clients, and external suppliers and service providers to support shoot coordination, pricing, and clear communication, acting as a key point of contact and representing the company professionally
Assist in post-production by providing editorial input on structure, pacing, music, shot selection, voiceover selection, and visual storytelling
Help ensure all content meets legal, ethical, and editorial standards, particularly when working with sensitive information
Support on-location shoots, assisting with day-to-day logistics and production needs in the field; travel locally within Toronto/GTA, nationally and internationally as required
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in television production, ideally in documentary format
Strong storytelling skills, with experience in scripting, research, and show structure
Comfortable working with medical subject matter, including graphic surgical content
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks across pre- and post-production
Confident communicator who works well across internal teams, clients, and external partners
Legally able and willing to travel internationally, including to destinations that may require visas or short-notice travel; valid passport required
Video editing experience is an asset
Work Environment:
Hybrid role: remote work with occasional in-person meetings and filming projects in and around Toronto, including evenings and weekends
Open to both full-time and part-time arrangements (approx. 20–40 hours per week, depending on availability and production needs)
