The Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine, at Baycrest Health Sciences and the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto are seeking to recruit a qualified full-time academic geriatrician with an academic position description of Clinician in Quality and Innovation. The successful candidate must be eligible for a Full-Time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The effective start date of the appointments is September 1, 2026, or a mutually agreeable date.


Baycrest, is a geriatric health sciences centre located in Toronto, Ontario that is fully-affiliated with the University of Toronto and plays a unique and important role in training and mentoring medical students and residents who will have the responsibility of caring for our aging population. Baycrest operates over 1,000 beds across a full continuum of senior health and residential care programs with 2,000 staff and 2,000 volunteers. The continuum includes the following: a 262-bed post-acute Hospital; a 472-bed long-term care facility; a 1+0-suite retirement/assisted living home; and a 120-suite residence for independent older adults. In addition, Baycrest offers comprehensive on-site, home-based and virtual ambulatory services that serve 10,000 clients annually.


Baycrest is a world-class leader in innovation in aging, with the acclaimed Rotman Research Institute, considered one of the premier brain institutes in the world, and the Kunin-Lunenfeld Centre for Applied Research and Evaluation (KL-CARE), which supports clinical research and the application of research findings directly to patient care. In addition, Baycrest is the home base for the Canadian Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation (CC-ABHI), which aims to develop, evaluate and disseminate innovative technologies and services relevant to the senior sector.


The Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto is one of the largest in North America, with 800 full-time faculty members, 1,000 postgraduate trainees, and 20 sub-specialty divisions located across six fully-affiliated hospitals, four community-affiliated hospitals and more than a dozen additional clinical practice sites. A philosophy of innovation, creativity and continuous quality improvement, informs all that the Department does.


The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or its equivalent) and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). In addition, the successful candidate must have demonstrated clinical excellence in geriatric medicine and expertise in quality improvement and teaching. This will be assessed by proof of achievement, including, but not limited to advanced training in the field of quality improvement with experience in applying quality improvement methods to quality improvement initiatives, as well as excellent evaluations in teaching trainees at various levels of training. This position will support quality improvement and teaching opportunities in geriatric medicine clinical practice settings, including both inpatient and outpatient venues, in addition to participating fully in the quality improvement and educational programs of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto. Participation in creative professional activity in quality and innovation activities will be required.


Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $200,000-$350,000 (including OHIP fees for service, academic AFP and RGP sessional fee payments, and Ontario Ministry of Health EGGS funding) commensurate with patient volumes seen, academic rank, qualifications and experience.
