Position Title / Rank: Assistant Professor, Solid Mechanics
Department: School of Engineering

Position Description:

The School of Engineering at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in the area of Mechanical Engineering (Solid Mechanics). We are looking for individuals who will establish and lead a world-class, competitive research program in Computational and Experimental Solid Mechanics and AI-based Materials Engineering. The successful candidate will focus on high-performance computing, numerical methods, and applied mathematics for solid mechanics. The anticipated start date for this appointment is September 1, 2026, or another mutually agreed-upon date in the academic year 2026.


Key Responsibilities:

Develop and lead a cutting-edge research program in Computational Solid Mechanics and AI-based Material Engineering.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance the field of solid mechanics and materials engineering.
Publish high-impact research in top-tier journals and present findings at international conferences.
Mentor and supervise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
Contribute to the development and teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering.

Qualifications:

B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field by the start date of employment.
Demonstrated expertise in Computational Solid Mechanics and use of AI in Materials Engineering.
Must have P.Eng status or be eligible for P.Eng registration in the province of Ontario.
Strong publication record in reputable scientific journals relative to the date of completion of a PhD.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
