Job Summary
The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga seeks an enthusiastic and innovative candidate for a two-year Contractually-Limited Term Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in the field of Computer Science. We seek candidates who have a record of excellent teaching, experience and demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices,and strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, as evidenced by the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations and strong letters of reference from referees of high standing. Candidates must have a graduate degree in Computer Science or a related area by the time of appointment; candidates with a PhD in Computer Science are preferred. Candidates must have a record of teaching excellence that includes creating an enjoyable and educational experience for students and must have taught a variety of undergraduate Computer Science courses, particularly systems courses or technical writing courses. Teaching experience in theory courses is an asset. Preference is given to candidates who have developed curriculum for new and existing courses; have experience engaging with students both in and out of a course setting (for example, running seminars, contests, workshops, and engaging with student-run initiatives); have experience contributing to departmental administration (for example, course coordination and managing TAs); and have experience supervising undergraduate or graduate research projects. Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of career goals, and a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching excellence (such as course evaluations or selected course materials). Applicants must arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation (on letterhead and signed), of which at least two must address the candidate's teaching, sent directly by the writers.
