Assistant/Field Officer-(Biologist)

Essential Qualification
• Post-graduate in Biology, Zoology, Wildlife Ecology/Science, or allied branches of life

sciences with 2-3 years of professional experience in research and conservation of reptiles,

with a focus on crocodilian and or testudine species

OR

Graduate in Zoology, Wildlife Science, or allied branches of life sciences with at least 5 years

of professional experience in wildlife research and conservation, with a focus on crocodilian

and testudine species
• Proven skills in ecological survey design, field survey, and execution of research and

conservation project in aquatic ecosystems through appointment.
• Experience in aquatic ecosystems, preferably focused on crocodilian and testudines’ species.
• Strong knowledge of crocodilian and testudines’ species biology, ecology, and conservation

principles, with working experience

Desired qualification
• Experience in ex-situ conservation of crocodilian/testudine
• Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS) and GIS tools for spatial analysis and

mapping.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse

stakeholders, including scientists, policymakers, and local communities.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize

tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Publication(s) in national or inter-national peer-reviewed journal

Key Responsibilities
• Conduct field surveys to monitor gharial and other aquatic faunal populations, including population counts, nesting site surveys, and habitat assessments.
• Analyse data collected from field surveys and research studies, using statistical methods and GIS software to assess population trends, habitat use, and threats to gharial populations.
• Assist in the development and implementation of conservation plans and management strategies to mitigate direct and indirect threats to Gandak gharial populations.
• Assist in collaborating with local communities, government agencies, and conservation organizations to raise awareness about gharial conservation issues and promote community-based conservation initiatives.
• Provide training and technical support to forest department, volunteers, and community members involved in gharial conservation activities.
• Stay updated on current research, best practices, and emerging threats related to gharial conservation, contributing to the scientific knowledge base and informing conservation strategies.
• Support the team in conducting community consultations for conservation of gharial and river ecosystem; and any other activity for project development.
