Associate - School POC, Alumni Support & Engagement (Mumbai)
Organisation Background: The Akanksha Foundation is a 30+ year old non-profit organization with the mission to build innovative schools that will empower children & young adults from underserved communities and influence the ecosystem. Akanksha supports 14,600 students through the formal-school education program and 5,800alumni from low-income backgrounds. Our 27 English-medium schools run in partnership with municipal corporations in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. We provide students from underserved communities a high-quality, holistic education at no cost. Our aim is to give students the knowledge, skills, and values they need to lead empowered lives, maximize their potential and break out of the cycle of poverty. With a vision to scale our impact we codified our practices and, in 2022, joined forces with Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to take these practices to nearly 200 public schools under 'Project Setu'.

Overview of School POC (Point of Contact):
The School POC will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging and informative career awareness sessions for students in Grades 8 to 10. These sessions will aim to introduce students to a wide range of career pathways, support self-exploration, and help them identify interests and potential future career options. The role also involves conducting individualized career counselling sessions to support students in making informed academic and professional decisions. In addition, the School POC will lead and manage the FYJC and FYUG admissions processes for two Mumbai schools, ensuring timely guidance, coordination, and end-to-end support for students and stakeholders.
Work Schedule:
The role will follow a hybrid work structure, with on-ground engagement at schools on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and office-based work on Wednesdays.
What your role will entail:
Career Awareness Sessions:
● Deliver planned career awareness sessions for students in grades 8–10.
● Educate students on a variety of career options, required skills, and the educational pathways to achieve career goals.
● Integrate interactive activities and guest speaker sessions to enhance student engagement.
● Collaborate with teachers and advisors to align career awareness sessions with classroom learning and students' academic development.
Individual Career Counseling:
● Facilitate psychometric testing for Grade * / 10 students in collaboration with the learning partner
● Provide one-on-one career counseling sessions for students in grades * /10 to explore their interests, strengths, and potential career paths.
● Assist students in setting short-term and long-term career goals.
● Guide students in creating personalized career plans, including identifying appropriate high school courses, extracurricular activities, and internships.
Collaboration & Outreach:
● Collaborate with school staff, parents, and other stakeholders to support students’ career exploration and development.
● Conducting at least 1 parent meet per quarter for each grade level.
Data & Reporting:
● Track and report on student progress in career exploration and counseling.
● Maintain accurate records of individual career counseling sessions and student feedback.
Alumni Engagement:
The POC will also handle the engagement for alumni of the allocated 2 schools and be responsible for providing career guidance, organizing alumni get-togethers and networking events, assisting students with undergraduate admissions processes, and maintaining detailed records of student progress and engagement.
Alumni Get-Togethers & Networking Events:
● Connecting at least once with Grade 11 and 12 alumni per quarter and maintaining records of the interaction.
● Organize and manage alumni networking events, and hubs for current students and alumni (a min of 6 hubs across grade 11 and 12 in an academic year).
● Foster strong relationships with alumni to encourage their active participation in career-related events, mentorship programs, and networking opportunities.
● Coordinate virtual or in-person sessions with alumni to share career insights, experiences, and advice with students.
● Collaborating with the school for creating spaces for Step-up and mobilizing alumni for the same. Also, the POC will need to maintain a record of the step-up events including data, photos and other necessary information.
Data Management & Reporting:
● Maintain detailed and up-to-date records of student progress, alumni engagement, event participation, and counseling sessions.
● Track student career preferences, academic achievements, and post-graduation plans to ensure accurate data management and reporting.
● Prepare reports on the outcomes of events, workshops, and individual sessions to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Collaboration & Outreach:
● Work closely with school counselors, faculty, and administration to integrate career and alumni support into the broader academic experience.
● Build and maintain a network of alumni, university representatives, and industry professionals to provide ongoing support to students.
● Collaborate with partnership for HPS, INCS and UG admissions
● Ambassador hiring, work allocation and work reports to be submitted to the partnership team.
What you need for this Position:
Experience:
● 1-2 years of experience preferably in the development sector
Knowledge/Skills:
● Strong research skills to stay updated on knowledge of various Careers and courses.
● A deep passion for youth, a high level of energy and a strong sense of belief in what our students are capable of Good written and verbal communication skills - English, Marathi and Hindi
Education:
● Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
