Associate Designer |Fashion Industry

This position is onsite in Los Angeles (DTLA, Fashion District). We require candidates to be local, as relocation assistance is not available.

OVERVIEW: XÍRENA’s Associate Designer will collaborate and partner with the Director of Design and Creative Director to design and execute seasonal lines that reflect the XÍRENA aesthetic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

· Work closely with the Design Director to sketch/plan designs based on seasonal direction

· Sketch clear CAD's to hand off to the Tech Designer, Pattern-Makers and to post onto the line plan (updating sketches as needed when there are changes)

· Strong import background

· Domestic background is a plus

· Research and create tests/prototypes/techniques/embroideries/trims for imports and domestic

· Work with factories and/or local vendors to develop new techniques/treatments/shapes, and to follow through to SMS to meet our price targets/T&A calendar

· Sketch, and work on tech packs for in-house pattern makers, and imports

· Follow designs through fittings with the Pattern Maker to final samples

· Research and stay current on trends and proposing/presenting new ideas for the collection based on direction

· Commenting on strike-off/handloom submits of fabrics and trims

· Attend fabric and vintage shows

· Prepping and lending a hand for our photoshoots

· Research trends online and shops domestically

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

· Strong problem-solving skills along with the ability to multi-task, and prioritize

· Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills

· Knowledge of construction and execution of a garment

· Experience executing tech packs

· Highly developed organization and time management skills

· High level of accuracy and attention to detail

· Must have excellent Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills

· Knowledge of washes and shrinkage a plus

· 5+ years min. of experience as a designer

· PLM knowledge a plus

· Strong CAD ability & knowledge
