Job Description: ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE: Located near Los Angeles, California, Pomona College is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges. Established in 1887, Pomona College is known for small classes, a challenging curriculum, close relationships between students and faculty, and a range of student research and leadership opportunities. Pomona is a member of The Claremont Colleges.

JOB PURPOSE: The Director provides overall leadership and day-to-day management for the Athletic Training and Sports Performance units within the Department of Physical Education and Athletics. This role carries full supervisory responsibility for all Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance staf members and oversees the operations of both the Athletic Training Room and the Athletic Performance Center. The Director works in close partnership with faculty and staf coaches across all 21 varsity athletic programs.

The Director will expand the curriculum by teaching Physical Education courses in health-related areas and providing internship opportunities for students interested in the Health Sciences and Sports Performance ?elds. As a senior member of the Department of Physical Education senior administrative team, the Director plays a meaningful role in shaping the direction of the department by contributing to major decisions, informing long-range planning, and helping develop and execute the strategic vision for both Pomona College Physical Education and Pomona-Pitzer Athletics. This position carries a coterminous faculty appointment. In that capacity, the Director participates in the regular faculty review process, with evaluation criteria established by the Physical Education Department and governed by the Pomona College Faculty Handbook.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Chair of Physical Education and Director of Athletics, the Director works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:

Directs all aspects of Athletic Training Room and Athletic Performance The Director works to ensure that all department curricular oferings, speci?cally Varsity Athletics, are a safe learning and growth environment and are in compliance with NCAA rules. Provide overall leadership and manage the full-time staf of the Athletic Training Room and Athletic Performance Center including hiring, training and performance Oversees the scheduling and coordination of staf assignments for coverage of team practices and competitions.

Maintain efective communication and relationships necessary to provide leadership, direction and education to the Department of Physical Education and Athletics in the areas of health, medical clearance, safety & injury prevention, injury recognition, emergency response, compliance with treatment programs, athletic performance and overall scheduling for varsity athletic teams. Develops policies, procedures and manages delivery of sports medicine and athletic performance services including testing, evaluation, treatment of injuries, rehabilitation and medical Manages athletic training facility including budgets, equipment, supplies, inventory, purchasing, maintenance, replacement and Manages the coordination and communication of services with staf for injured student-athletes, advises coaches daily on medical status of injured student-athletes and makes determination of ability for student-athletes to practice and compete. Teaches courses in the Department of Physical Education in the area of Athletic Training and will oversee Independent Studies in the ?eld of Athletic Reviews, evaluates and recommends techniques and equipment that enhance the Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance Provides vision and leadership to keep these areas up to date. Serves as the primary athletic trainer for speci?c varsity Maintains the Department’s important professional connections to the local medical community and provides instruction to fellows/residents of local medical facilities. Monitors and veri?es certi?cations and continuing education for all Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance Serves as the department liaison to the SCIAC Athletic Trainers and NCAA on Sports Medicine and Athletic performance related Serves on Pomona College, SCIAC and NCAA committees as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology or a related ?eld required. Licenses/Certi?cates: Certi?cation from National Athletic Trainers’ Association of Certi?cation (NATABOC) CPR/AED (or ability to obtain prior to the start date) Required. NSCA CSCS certi?cation preferred Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in sports medicine and collegiate athletic training, including demonstrated supervisory or leadership responsibility. Experience at an academic institution is preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: This position must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job or must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other knowledge, skills and abilities not listed below.

Deploy professional skills in Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College’s strategic Must understand and communicate the mission and history of the College’s liberal arts environment. Demonstrate efective, accurate and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, and leadership skills to supervise, facilitate, motivate and inspire a highly diverse group of employees, student employees, temporary workers, contract employees. Must also assist and communicate well with parents, students, alumni, volunteers, community partners, and other possible Operate computers with basic Microsoft Ofice software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional Demonstrate understanding of the use of technology/devices/equipment in assessing and improving department systems and processes to achieve annual goals and maintain con?dentiality. Handle all activities and highly con?dential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy and tact while working with people from a wide variety of Prioritize and perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the College’s strategic vision and the Department of Physical Educations and Athletics core Use exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to Operate the College’s vehicles safely for campus-related Knowledge of FERPA and HIPPA Knowledge of NCAA health and safety-related requirements and keeping current with NCAA ADDITIONAL POSITIONAL DETAILS: This position is a regular, full-time, exempt position. Annual Salary for this position is between $90,000-$115,000 with a competitive bene?ts package. The speci?c factors that the College will consider when ofering a salary to and

individual will include, but not be limited to: education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior roles.
