Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
You will work in our suburban Christchurch office, within an established project team developing UC's innovative student management systems, with a focus on improving the UC experience for both students and staff. You will assist in detailed design sessions and build innovative software with contemporary tools and practices, including microservice development and cloud deployment.
You will focus on developing UC's software assets, assisting with analysis, design, deployment, testing and assisting support teams. In this role you will be building your skills and professional experience by seeking and engaging with formal and informal learning opportunities.
Mōu | Who You Are
You are a team player skilled in developing web-delivered commercial products. You will have good written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of agile ways of working. You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
At least 1.5 years of software development experience, using more than one programming language or environment.
Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science or closely related software development discipline).
An alignment with our organisation's values and culture, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
Experience in and understanding of the challenges facing higher education organisations
Experience in Python
A self-starting attitude
Serverless computing with AWS is key to our application. Software developers at UC can expect to use a variety of languages, frameworks and tools throughout their career. For this project, experience with several of the following would be desirable:
Back-end application/web service development with Python/Django/Django REST Framework
Front-end web application development with Angular and Typescript
Source control with GitHub or similar, and build/test automation tools
Ensuring software quality with techniques like unit and end-to-end testing
Public cloud application development using AWS and/or Azure, including serverless experience
