Job Description
We are recruiting an Associate/Senior Associate to lead our Commonwealth Injury Compensation (CIC) practice on a full-time or part-time, permanent basis. With a national remit, this role offers flexibility to be based from any of our offices across Australia. This role has a strong focus on Comcare matters, making it well suited to an experienced practitioner who enjoys technical statutory work, detailed medical evidence, and helping clients navigate Commonwealth workers’ compensation schemes. The role will also involve assisting clients with NDIS disputes and running these to the Administrative Review Tribunal.

This position plays a key role in the broader operation of the CIC practice. This includes working closely with key internal and external stakeholders to support practice outcomes, providing timely advice to clients, and contributing to policy interpretation and the continuous improvement of claims management processes. You will also assist with high‑level enquiries, oversee workflows within the practice, and support national consistency across the team’s approach to statutory matters.

The ideal candidate will have well‑developed legal and technical skills, confidence managing a diverse file load autonomously, and sound judgement when navigating disputed liability, medical evidence and statutory entitlements. Strong analytical ability, decision‑making and communication skills are essential. We welcome applications from practitioners with experience in personal injury or statutory compensation law, particularly those accustomed to managing complex and ongoing matters, and those with demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders.

The experience we are looking for

You are an experienced Associate/Senior Associate who is client‑focused, commercially minded, and motivated by technically complex statutory work. You enjoy taking ownership of matters, mentoring others, working with stakeholders and delivering high‑quality outcomes in a specialised practice.

In addition, you will bring:

Significant post‑admission experience, ideally within personal injuries, statutory compensation or administrative law.
Demonstrated experience working on Comcare / Commonwealth workers’ compensation matters, or a strong background in complex work injury or statutory compensation schemes.
A strong working knowledge of Commonwealth workers’ compensation legislation (or the capability to quickly develop this expertise), including liability, incapacity and medical entitlement frameworks.
Experience managing complex matters, including disputes involving medical evidence and review or appeal processes.
A proactive and strategic approach to end‑to‑end file management, including prioritisation and risk assessment.
The ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑volume practice while maintaining exceptional quality and attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support complex statutory matters and practice outcomes.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to deliver high‑level client service to vulnerable clients.
Experience contributing to practice development, stakeholder engagement or referral relationships (desirable).
An unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
