Position Description
Purpose
The purpose of this job is to provide mechanical maintenance support to service units utilizing light-duty vehicles owned and operated by the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).
Accountability
This job is accountable for:
Maintaining a clean work area, and productive balance between quality and quantity of work in an efficient and timely manner while demonstrating adaptability to changes in work priorities.
Effectively prioritizing work and communicating problem solving skills in a collaborative manner that promotes teamwork, contributing toward positive work relationships.
Performing all duties in accordance with CBE and legislative safety practices and procedures at all times to ensure one’s own safety and the safety of team members, staff, and students.
Major responsibilities
As directed by the Foreman, adjusts, tests, and repairs engines, steering systems, braking systems, drive trains, and vehicle suspensions.
Completes wheel alignments and works with electrical systems and air-conditioning systems.
May be dispatched to perform service calls and perform emergency repairs on our light-duty fleet at various CBE operational sites throughout the City of Calgary.
Advises vehicle operators of any work performed, or future repairs required on vehicles, and prepares maintenance service schedules on the CBE light-duty fleet.
Prepares general vehicle condition assessment reports, ensures all required data has been recorded, and reports any issues or problems to the Foreman and Fleet Administrator.
Takes vehicles for test drives and refers to manufacturers’ specifications and manuals, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and safe to operate.
Determines and prepares parts list required to complete assigned work.
Performs regular and routine vehicle inspections and reports any issues or problems to the Foreman and Fleet Administrator.
Disposes used oil, radiator fluid, worn-out parts, and other components in accordance with Calgary Board of Education policies and procedures and provincial regulations.
Performs other related responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Alberta Journeyman's certificate as an Automotive Service Technician
Five years related experience. Individuals may specialize in repairing, rebuilding, and servicing specific parts (transmissions, engines, or electrical systems).
Experience in repairing various types of equipment is an asset.
Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
Ability to operate vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
Knowledge and ability to operate auto repair, diagnostic, and automotive tools.
Mechanical aptitude and interest.
Good hearing, eyesight, and manual dexterity.
A working knowledge of electricity, electronics, and computers.
Excellent written, oral communication skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to respect and value all individuals with sensitivity to diversity.
Good time management and organizational skills
Customer service skills.
