Halfords is quickly becoming a digital services business. In addition to being a leading UK retailer, Halfords has also now developed a market leading field service management platform that enables businesses to deliver their complex services to customers through an end-to-end digital solution. The platform is deployed throughout Halfords stores, garages and their mobile business. The platform has now been taken to market to enable other businesses in our sector and other industries globally to deliver market leading service delivery and an unrivalled customer experience. This SaaS division is called Avayler (Avayler.com).

Avayler is marketed in the UK, Europe and the US. We have a highly experienced technology team that have developed our platform, and have sales, product, and marketing functions already in place, led by seasoned industry veterans. Now with the launch of the platform and the launch of our clients, ATD (American Tires Distributors) in North America and ATU in EMEA, we are looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer for our business.

This is a unique opportunity to work in what is essentially a start-up, without the risk, backed by a successful PLC. The business is in its infancy, even though we have high demand for our solution in our industry in EMEA and in the US. Those that join the team will have the benefit of helping shape the business from the start, create the brand and ethos of the company, whilst having the confidence in the financial security of being backed by Halfords Group PLC business, a 125-year-old, $2bn per year, FTSE listed business.

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced software engineer to work within one of our rapidly iterating, product focused technology tribes & squads. You’ll contribute to expanding our range of highly flexible API driven web & mobile applications enabling our customers to provide their customers the most cost efficient, reliable and convenient service possible.

What You Will Be Doing:
• Working within a close-knit squad to build high quality software products
• Promote and be involved in the writing of standout unit and integration tests
• Constantly strive to engineer with the future in mind, weighing up the gain from re-usable components that can speed up future development vs the benefit to customers and consumers
• Be involved in all aspects of the iterative software delivery lifecycle, contributing to strategies and tactics to increase quality and efficiency
• Join communities of like-minded people to grow your skill set and improve our use of technology

What You Need to Succeed:
• Extensive Commercial experience with .Net and C#
• Commercial experience unit and/or integration testing frontend applications
• E.g., MS Test, nUnit, xUnit and Postman
• Experience of working with SQL and NoSQL data
• Experience coaching and mentoring junior and mid-level developers
• An understanding of microservices and developing APIs, specifically RESTful APIs
• An understanding of the ways of agile software development
• You can solve both technical and product problems proactively, alongside your squad
• Understanding of cloud technology desirable, but not required
• E.g., AWS, Azure or GCP
