The Opportunity:
Wholesale Portfolio Management (WPM) is a part of Global Banking & Markets (GBM) and is responsible for the active portfolio management for both GBM & Commercial Banking (CMB) globally. Portfolio Management Analytics (PM Analytics) within WPM is responsible for the Portfolio Analysis to deliver actionable insights on the global Wholesale Portfolio. Portfolio Analysis involves analysing the existing portfolio data, trends, early warning tools, etc. in order to provide actionable portfolio risk/profitability insights to the senior management. PM Analytics is also responsible for owning/enhancing and maintenance of the methodology and pricing application used at origination. The Pricing application aids decision making, resulting in more informed conclusions being drawn regarding the risk, return, profitability and viability of proposed transactions
What you'll do:
• The incumbent will be required to manage a team of associates and work extensively in an integrated team environment to support portfolio managers by carrying out thematic portfolio analysis and reviews, identify portfolio trends and their drivers. Recommend portfolio optimization strategies basis the outcome of the thematic analyses
• Identify and work with the large, complex data sets to solve difficult analysis problems, applying advance analytical methods using Python/ Alteryx as needed
• Lead projects that will deliver key insights to enable decision making
• Drive process automation and standardization of various reports, dashboards and presentations
• Identify Early Warning signals using market indicators such as Stock prices, Moody's EDF, Credit Default Swaps, Short Interest volumes, Bond prices, Industry/sector news, change in regional or global outlook and macro-economic factors, company financials
• Focus on contributing towards strategic objectives of risk mitigation and profitability improvement by highlighting Early Warning signals of Credit deterioration, Low Return analysis and RWA optimization
• Perform stress testing and scenario analysis on the wholesale credit and lending portfolio based on changes in macro-economic, systemic and idiosyncratic factors by stressing company financials
• Conduct deep dive analysis on the low return clients and key exposures in terms of loans and advances, net interest margin, limit, utilisation and RWA
• Work independently effectively deploy internal and external resources
• Present ideas and thematic reviews effectively to wider wholesale portfolio management team including regional heads
• Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved
• Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
• Share information, knowledge and ideas with the team. Train and groom junior colleagues
Requirements
What you will need to succeed in the role:
• Must have 8+ years of relevant work experience
• Experience in SAS, SQL, Python or Alteryx is recommended
• MBA in Finance from a reputed institute. CFA, FRM certifications will be preferred.
• Highly self-motivated, resilient, pragmatic and delivery focused with drive to learn new concepts and skills.
• Excellent communications - written and verbal and interpersonal / team skills. Should be comfortable in effectively presenting their ideas.
• Strong understanding of fundamental analysis, financial statements, markets, banking and associated Bank book products & trade products
• Good understanding of credit risk concepts such as Expected Loss, Risk Weighted Assets, Exposure at Default, Probability of Default, Credit Risk Rating and Loss Given Default
• Strong competency in Microsoft office applications, especially MS Excel, Power-point presentations
• Experience in using external data sources such as Factset, Refinitiv, etc.
• Ability to work in a project based environment with hard deadlines
• Good time management and prioritization skills ability to juggle between multiple tasks
• Experience and ability to operate in a global setting / interact with Business Partners and Senior Management
