Peoples Group is seeking a dynamic AVP Business Development to join our Real Estate Finance team based in Vancouver or Calgary. This role focuses on CMHC-insured and conventional multi-family construction financing across Western Canada, leveraging an extensive Broker network and direct borrower relationships.

About The Role

You are a passionate, solution and goal-oriented team player with excellent communication skills. You have a thorough understanding of both conventional and CMHC-insured commercial mortgage financing across various real estate asset classes in the Western Canada market. You deliver exceptional customer service and take pleasure in building strong relationships with commercial brokers and direct borrowers.

You will assist in developing and implementing strategic plans to grow the Peoples Trust CMHC loan portfolio. Your responsibilities will include managing and strengthening client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and coordinating with internal teams to meet client expectations and achieve company results. You prioritize compliance and risk management, paying close attention to detail while keeping a strategic, big-picture perspective in your time management.

This AVP Business Development position will play a significant role in the Western Canada Commercial Lending team’s success.

About You

• Experience in CMHC-insured commercial mortgage financing with a focus on MLI Select construction.
• Conventional commercial mortgage financing experience with a focus on construction would be an asset.

About The Day-to-day Responsibilities
• Loan Origination and Underwriting: Manage the origination and underwriting of CMHC insured financing proposals for both construction and term mortgages.
• Application Preparation: Assist in the preparation of internal credit application submissions to Peoples Trust’s Credit Committee.
• Leadership and Mentorship: Provide leadership and direction to Real Estate Associates, Analysts, and Coordinators.
• Collaboration with Mortgage Administration and Servicing: Work closely with the Commercial Mortgage Funding team and external legal counsel to ensure efficient funding of all assigned loans.
• Collaboration with Leadership: Work closely with the Regional Vice President and Vancouver Business Development Leads to drive the success of our Commercial Mortgage division in the Western Canada region.
• Strategic Business Development: Engage in active marketing and business development efforts to consistently grow the Western Canada CMHC insured mortgage portfolio.
• Credit Management: Work closely with our Credit Group to monitor the mortgage portfolio and identify and manage problem loans. Review appraisals and environmental reports in accordance with internal credit policy. Manage a portfolio of CMHC insured construction loans to completion and term takeout.

Desired Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree / MBA or CFA preferred
• Minimum 3 years CMHC-insured commercial mortgage and conventional lending experience
• Knowledge of AML and KYC requirements
• Proven ability to generate sales and market development
• Exceptional relationship development skills
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment
• Excellent communication skills

About The Work Environment

Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.

Hiring Process

Compensation

The expected salary for this role is approximately $155,000.00 - $165,000.00 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
