$88,700.23 - $125,700.07 annually, plus $54.75 bi-weekly Isolation allowance for Fort Nelson.

Job Summary

The Team

The Legislation and Legal Support team plays a crucial role in shaping the legal framework that supports children, youth, and families across British Columbia. This established team of nine professionals is dedicated to refining legislation and regulations, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with Indigenous partners. Additionally, this team is responsible for all Ministry statutes, which include the Child, Family, Community Service Act, Adoption Act, and Youth Justice Act, among others. The team is known for its intelligence, compassion, and commitment to ensuring that all communities are thoughtfully considered in their work.

The Legislation and Legal Support team made significant contributions to the work that received the 2023 Premier’s Innovation and Excellence Award for Partnership.

The Role

The Manager, Legislation and Legal Support is responsible for leading the research, development, and implementation of legislation that impacts children, youth, and families across British Columbia. This role plays a vital part in upholding the ministry’s commitment to creating safe, nurturing environments, particularly for Indigenous children and youth. The Manager has a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative legislative changes, working within a team recognized for its innovative and impactful collaborations.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in law (LLB), public administration or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

A minimum of two (2) years of related experience. Related experience MUST include all the following:

Drafting legislation, regulations, policies, contracts, leases, or other legal documents.

Developing strategic policy initiatives and broad-scale policies or programs, inclusive of legislation or regulations.

Analyzing and resolving complex legal, procedural, and legislative issues in a government or regulatory environment.

Handling politically sensitive, confidential, and provincially significant issues.

Providing advice and recommendations to and developing written materials for senior executive or Cabinet.

Organizing and managing concurrent projects or project components with multiple, competing priorities and rigid deadlines.

Establishing collaborative relationships with Indigenous rights-holders and partners, internal clients, or external stakeholders.

Preference may be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in the development of regulations or legislation in British Columbia.

This is a permanent opportunity.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
