Job Summary
The Team

The Provincial Practice Branch in Vancouver Coastal is an established team of six dedicated practice consultants, including a Field Education consultant, who bring valuable expertise to the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) teams and leaders across diverse communities. This team plays a crucial role in supporting operational MCFD teams, ranging from urban centers to rural and remote areas, ensuring that services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each community. By leading practice initiatives, training, and providing consultative support, they contribute to the Ministry's vision of safe, healthy, and nurturing environments for all children and youth. The Director of Practice guides the team in shaping strategic plans and service standards. This team is not only pivotal in influencing service delivery but also offers a rewarding opportunity to deepen understanding of their community and enhance practice expertise.


The Role

As the Director of Practice, you will be deeply involved in collaborating with staff to shape and guide the delivery of child welfare services across your diverse community. You'll work closely with a dedicated team to ensure that provincial practices and policies align with ministry goals and community needs. By developing strategic plans, overseeing budgets, and directly supporting staff, you will play a crucial role in enhancing service delivery and fostering a positive impact on the lives of children, youth, and families throughout British Columbia. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead, inspire, and make a meaningful difference alongside a committed team.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s in Social Work or Child and Youth Care, in social sciences or related degree; OR
Master’s in Social Work or Master’s in Counselling Psychology completed a practicum in family and child welfare.
NOTE: If your degree is obtained outside of Canada, have you had it assessed for equivalency to work in British Columbia through the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES).
Five (5) or more years child safety experience is necessary;
Experience in program and policy development;
Two (2) or more years of experience providing training and group facilitation;
Experience establishing relationships in the community;
Experience with development of issue papers, Information/Briefing Notes;
Experience independently managing projects;
Experience developing and monitoring budgets, contract administration;
Recent (within previous four years) supervisory experience within a unionized environment;
Experience working with experience working with Indigenous, First Nations, Métis and Inuit children, youth, families and partners.
Must be eligible to receive delegation under Section 4 of the Child, Family and Community Service Act.
A valid class 5 BC driver’s license is a requirement of the position
Preference may be given for additional years of experience in any of the above required statements.

About this Position:
One (1) position available.
This position is excluded from union membership.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
This position can be based in any Ministry of Children and Family Development office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
