Position Description:
Looking for an Assembly Manufacturing Process Engineer to support battery pack assembly initiatives for upcoming vehicle programs. This role will be instrumental in leading the development, installation, and validation of manufacturing processes and equipment for new model product launches across North American sites.
Summary:
This role is critical to ensuring the successful launch of battery pack assembly lines for new vehicle programs. The Assembly Manufacturing Process Engineer will lead the deployment of process and equipment solutions, working in close coordination with vendors, site teams, and global engineering groups. A strong emphasis is placed on hands-on execution, technical problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the lifecycle of equipment development and process integration.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the design, specification, and implementation of battery pack assembly processes in collaboration with site leadership and global engineering teams.
• Develop and issue technical specifications for equipment vendors, including tooling, conveyors, and material handling systems.
• Oversee installation, integration, and validation of production equipment, ensuring alignment with manufacturing, quality, and safety standards.
• Coordinate process confirmation activities, including line balancing, operator interaction, and logistics flow.
• Track equipment fabrication timelines, conduct runoffs, and manage supplier progress to ensure launch readiness.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to resolve issues during ramp-up and mass production phases.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in assembly process engineering or equipment integration.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment procurement, installation, and validation processes.
• Proficiency in 2D CAD tools such as AutoCAD or Autodesk.
• Experience with 3D modeling software like CATIA and/or SolidWorks.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for data tracking and reporting.
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended shifts (12-hour shifts and up to 25% overtime as needed).
• Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally for equipment runoffs, site support, and launch activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Hands-on experience with battery pack assembly or EV component manufacturing.
• Exposure to body weld or general assembly process development and equipment commissioning.
• OSHA 10 certification or equivalent safety training.
• Experience with robotic automation and 3D vision systems.
• Familiarity with digital manufacturing tools such as CARROT and DELMIA.
