Job Description

This is a 6 month fixed term position on a part time basis working 21 hours per week Monday – Wednesday. This position is located at the Nowra Administration Building, 36 Bridge Rd Nowra.

Duties
Reporting directly to the Biodiversity Coordinator, the focus of this position is to:

Assess development proposals and provide advice to Council staff in relation to biodiversity.
Undertake field survey.
Review reports from external consultants.
Undertake environmental assessments including reviews of environmental factors.
Provide technical assistance for other matters requiring environmental assessment.
Give presentations to Council staff and community groups as required.
Liaise with other Council staff to maintain relevant biodiversity databases.
Provide environmental education on threatened species and biodiversity to the community.
Liaise and negotiate with state government agencies and the private sector on matters relating to biodiversity.
Provide mentoring and coaching to trainees, and volunteers

Skills & Experience
To be successful in the position, you will possess:

Degree in one of the natural sciences (or a related discipline) with demonstrated advanced knowledge of ecological processes.
Demonstrated ability to assess the impact to biodiversity of development applications.
Demonstrated ability to interpret relevant environmental legislation.
Competent in fauna and flora field inventory and survey.
Competent in environmental impact assessment.
Class C Driver’s Licence.
